I've been working on a webcomic called "The Out-Fits."
The series involves four friends on a journey to stop a wicked cult from kidnapping animals. It's a light hearted comic with some dark undertones. Currently I have 13 issues uploaded on Webtoons, and I intend the series to have a start and finish narrative. Behind the Mind: Birds of All Feather Illustration FlyerThe past week, I partook in a local live music event at the Daily Bean in Vernon, NJ. I showed off my artwork there and managed to sell a decent amount, I did pretty well. The people performing music there also had a lot of fun!
Also, I illustrated the flyer for this event. The text and type were supplied by someone else. For the flyer, I used the Procreate app on my fairly new iPad I got three months ago. Instead of using my finger to draw, I bought a stylus pen and used that. Drawing with a stylus almost feels like you're drawing with pen and paper. Starting out I would use simple solid black strokes for the outlines. After completing the outlines for my layers, I would switch the colors of my strokes and widen them to fill over. Once the solid colors are in, I would add smaller details on my birds and the branch they're sitting on. The backgrounds look more paint like than the birds, which I wanted to be able to tell apart. Just in case, I made a horizontal flyer and another of a vertical flyer. The photo shown way above is the final design. --------------------- Below are links to two time lapse videos of the illustrations being drawn in process. Watching these videos will help make sense of what I've explained in this post. Variant 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKwAbcHwQyU Variant 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8nlCVQmp0Y Thanks for reading this post! - Sean Behind the Mind: Making Drawings of Towns / Cities / Landscapes You'll get to read about how I create elaborate drawings of scapes. This past year, I've been cranking out more realistic drawings along with my stylized drawings of animals. The amount of effort put into the details astounds me. Considering I would normally spend several hours on most other drawings, the ones I've done of towns, cities, and landscapes, I would spend days on them. I have made drawings of cities and landscapes before, but much simpler and more stylized. Since the drawing I've done of New York City last year, I've been inspired with making more drawings like this. Each time I've spent on them, I've noticed more patterns in my details. The more time spent, the more details. Photography really helps me on these drawings. Most of these drawings done are based off of photos I've taken myself. I usually prefer to draw places based off of my own photos. One of my primary methods of drawing is using Adobe Illustrator. I would place the photo on the canvas, trace over many little details by drawing lines seemingly invisible. I can tell where these lines are by different patterns of color. My process sounds like cheating, but I don't really believe that. I love working on these drawings of big places and the work spent on them, I truly appreciate that. I hope to continue making more of such drawings in the future, and my progress gets more refined.
